An enterprise's value has much to do with the maturity of its internal business processes. However appealing the business looks on the output level, as indicated by its cash flows, NPV, market shares, talent pool, among others, it is the throughput that determine sustained performance and longer term growth in real value. Structural and process issues entail major reengineering costs and pose serious operational and financial risks, and therefore must be examined. To assess the business maturity, we help deal makers address these questions:
  • Is the business structured to support or hinder strategic delivery?
  • Are there excessive layers of management?
  • Are spans of control right for the work being done?
  • Is work being done in the right place? Is there wasteful redundancy internally?
  • Are there non-core activities that should be outsourced?
  • Are solid HR policies, processes, and practices in place? Are there up-to-date job descriptions?
  • Are jobs designed, valued, sized, and staffed to ensure consistent high performance?
  • Is performance well managed and rewarded fairly and competitively?
